Logistics is the art and science of managing and controlling the flow of goods,energy,informaton and other resources like products,services,and people,from the source of production to the marketplace.It involves the integration of information , transportation , inventory, warehousing, material handling and packaging.

Though storing, obtaining and moving goods from one place to another is not one of the more obvious employment areas for importance to everyone.And it offers solid career possibilities.

The Chennai-Based Indian Institute of Logistics , a school for multi-modal transport which started this year, offers high quality training in logistics and allied areas.

"Indian Institute of Logistics is the only one of its lind which gives 100 percent job-oriented, practical training in logistics and multi-modal transport and exposes the students to subjects like multi-modal transport customes, stewarding, Shipping, Logistics Operations, Documentaton and Commercial and Legal aspects," he briefs.

"As Indian is growing in terms of import and export, the business of Logistics is going to benefit a lot," says Kalpesh R Patel, an industrialist , who is also a director of the institute. "We focus more on practical aspects rather than theory, he adds.

The institute is affiliated to London School of Business Management and accredited by Mangalayatam University,Aligarh ,UP . It also offers industrial visits to Singapore for interested students.Elaborating on the vision of the institute,Pushpa Kumar says, "our idea is to meet the talent need of the industry for specialised services in Logistics and MultiModal transport and to train Logistics Professionals, conduct educational programmes and increase awareness among the public."

The courses have been well-designed in association with industry professionals in order to reflect the needs of modern business. "Since Singapore is the hub of Global Logistics, we offer training for students there and this will give students an international exposure, both in terms of experience and placement," he adds.With full-fledged industry support, students will be allowed to attend the berth meeting, and visit the port, terminal and Container Yards.

The institute, based in Chennai, also has admission offices in Nellore and Cochin.
